Domain name is your address on the internet. We have discussed about it in great length in our previous articles about what is domain name and differentiate between tld, gtld, cctld and gcctld. If you miss that articles, click here  to go the articles. Having understood how domain name works, now we are ready to discuss how to choose the perfect domain name for your business.

Use your company name/ brand name plus .COM

This is the easiest and simplest way to decide what will be your domain name. Domain such as Apple.com, Google.com, Microsoft.com all represents their respective company name/ brand name. It is what people also expect if you already owned a business. It is a good starting point. Just search using our domain checker form whether it is still available. If it is still available, grab it now.

Use your country specific ccTLD, e.g. .my, .uk, .id, .in, etc.

What if it is not available, perhaps you should also consider our second proposal to consider the country specific TLD in the country which you operates. This will normally ranked high in the search engine whenever someone from your country search for your website.

Consider other generic TLD.

Although .com is arguably represents almost 50% of the domain registered today, you should also consider other gTLD. Depending on the nature of your business, there is always other popular gTLD or even gccTLD such as .online, .biz, .me, .shop, .tech, .club, that you can choose from. What we saw recently, there is an increasing trends for this other gTLD being used by major companies worldwide. So instead of buying a domain name such as kerepekonline.com you can consider kerepek.online. Instead of protonownersclub.com,why don’t register for protonowners.club. Not only that the domain name is shorter, it also given you high probability that the name that you are looking for is available.

Avoid using numbers, dashes, etc.

Unless it is part of your business name, the used of numbers and dashes might confuse people and might results in people to be redirected to other website, or worse still your rival website.

Take for example. Lets say your desired domain name is kerepek2u.com. While people might spell its like what you intend it to be, people can also spells it as keperektwoyou.com. We noted maybank2u.com is successful in using numbers, but that was deliberately done and the brand has now become synonym to the online banking website for Maybank.

As mentioned, unless it is something that you already sure will be recognisable, then go ahead to register domain with numbers. Other than that, please try to avoid using numbers and worst still dashes, underscore, etc. kerepek-online.com , kerepek_online.com. It makes it difficult for people to remember. So instead of going to your intended website, imagine if the competitors is having a domain name kerepekonline.com. Chances are some of your customers might go there if the forget to put the dashes and underscore.
